Diversity in media outlets that report on Africa

International newsrooms that report on Africa are often full of white journalists (and I’m one of them). But just how white or how ethnically diverse are they?

To get a better idea, I did a survey of 47 international newsrooms that report on Africa, asking them how racially diverse they are, and what they’re doing to prevent discrimination. I also spoke with a dozen black journalist to ask them about their experience.

We have a long way to go. You can read my article on African Arguments and don’t hesitate to reach out to let me know what you think.

If you speak French, I also highly recommend this podcast on the topic.
