Burning Cameroon: Images you’re not meant to see

Since October 2017, over 180,000 people were displaced by the conflict between anglophone separatists and the Cameroonian army. Cameroon’s security forces have killed dozens of civilians, perhaps over a hundred, and burnt down at least 20 villages.

Some of this violence was captured on smartphones and shared on social media. Through my local sources, I’ve collected around 50 such videos and photos documenting burnings, torture and killings. With the Africa Eye team, we confirmed the veracity of these images through open-source analysis and reaching out to eye witnesses.

We produced a 10-minute video with some of the cases we could confirm.
